Softball Plaza to be remodeled by St George Lions Club.

The exterior of Cooper Fields will receive an upgrade thanks to a generous donation from the St. George Lions Club.

“On behalf of the St. George Lions Club, we really want to reaffirm our continued support for Dixie State continuing into the future as a University,” said Greg Mathis, a member of the St. George Lions Club Board of Directors. “This softball plaza allows us to participate in a community service project, while at the same time providing a needed upgrade to the campus and athletics program. This project also affords us the opportunity to stand up with the new university, and while celebrating our rich heritage, look forward to an exciting and prosperous future.”

The project will clean up the exterior of Karl Brooks Field by adding a plaza on the west side. It will include work on the existing fence system, a conversion of parking spaces into a sidewalk that will include planter boxes, and the addition of trees and shrubs to help beautify the exterior of the complex.

“The St. George Lions Club has been a tremendous supporter of not just Dixie State Athletics, but the entire institution over the years,” said Director of Athletics Jason Boothe. “Once again, they have come through for us and will provide this wonderful beautification of the exterior of our softball complex.”

The project marks the beginning of several more renovations planned in the near future to the softball complex-including additional exterior work to better tie Cooper Diamonds into Hurst Field to the south and a potential new athletics/intramural facility to the north.

Boothe added, “We are very excited to work once again with such a great organization as the St. George Lions Club and are extremely grateful for their generosity.”

Work is expected to begin this week and wrap up by mid-March. For additional information about the project, please contact the Dixie State University Athletic Department Office at 435-652-7525.
